Hi. I’m Amy.
I’m a Director, Writer and Producer working across TV Drama, film and commercials. Most recently I’ve been directing episodes of ‘Hollyoaks’ for ChanneI 4 / Lime Pictures. I am also developing a series of short content by new LGBTQ+ writers with a view to producing these with a diverse range of Directors in 2020/21.
I started in the industry as a driver/trainee at Arri Media in 1998, and then as production/floor runner from 1999. I worked my way through the AD dept on a range of British and International feature films and TV Dramas, and have over 20 years experience as an Assistant Director. You can check out my full IMDB credit list here: www.imdb.com/amycoop
I started a production company, Angelic Films, in 2001 to produce and direct short films and since then I have made more that 150 shorts, commercials, docs, brand films and corporate videos, working with a range of other Directors and creatives. I have always been a great believer in promoting diversity within the industry and have a long history of working with BAME, Female, LGBTQ+ and other filmmakers from underrepresented groups.
I’ve worked in-house as a commercials Producer at ITN Productions (advertising) for ITV, and for BT Sport Creative. Recent commercial productions with Angelic Films have included international work for Pepe Jeans and Lenovo, as well as short documentaries for the Terrence Higgins Trust.
In 2018 I was selected for the BBC Drama Director scheme and went on to direct an episode of the popular daytime drama ‘Doctors’ for BBC1. This led to directing a further three blocks (9 eps) of ‘Doctors’ across 2019/20. I have also directed 10 episodes of the award-winning continuing drama ‘Hollyoaks’ for Lime Pictures / Channel 4, and am just about to start prep on another 5 episodes (April 2020).
My multi award-winning short films have played at festivals around the world, and had particular success in North America. They include ‘Epitaph’, ‘A Little Bit Country’, ‘The Treehouse’ and most recently ‘Annabel Lee’. You can find more details about each of these films and more on this website.
I have extensive experience of teaching Film & TV production skills to a range of students. For nearly 10 years I was a Film & TV consultant and teacher for the PQA group of performing arts academies, for children aged 6 – 18, and I am currently developing online teaching content for them. I have also been a visiting lecturer at the NFTS, taught a Screen Acting masterclass at the CMA drama school in Paris, and have worked with other overseas providers to deliver Film education workshops to visiting international students.
Whilst I didn’t attend a formal film school I have undertaken short course training with the NFTS (Producing & Directing), The Script Factory (Script Development), BECTU (Health & Safety), BBC (Production Safety Passport), Creative Skillset / Screenskills (Production Management / Line Producing), New Producers Alliance (Producing), NESTA and the UK Film Council (Take 12 Digital Innovation), GBCT / Panavision (Steadicam).
I have several TV & Film projects in development and am always looking for new challenges and collaborators to bring stories to life on screen.
Oh, and I may be very tall and apparently somewhat intimidating, but I’m very nice really…!
